Postal stoppage planned for next week

Postal services could grind to a halt next Wednesday due to a planned one-day stoppage by members of the Communications Workers' Union.

Reports this morning said the union was planning to engage in the stoppage as part of a dispute over the closure of An Post’s SDS parcel delivery service.

CWU members have already voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action in the event that the company breaches agreements with its workers and the union claims the SDS closure represents such a breach.

The CWU executive is due to meet today to discuss what form the action should take, but this morning’s reports said activists indicated that a 24-hour stoppage from midnight on Tuesday was on the cards.
