FF Senator calls for action on childcare for working couples

Fianna Fáil Senator Mary White has called for more to be done to tackle the growing problem of childcare for working parents.

Senator White said that the cost of putting children into creche facilities is draining young married couples of all their disposable income.

A commnunity creche place costs €88 per week per child while a private creche can cost up to €200 a week per child.

Senator White said that the existing rate of child benefit is tiny relative to costs involved in child-minding.
