'Border Fox' gets temporary prison release

It has emerged that the notorious republican prisoner Dessie O'Hare is out of jail on temporary release until tomorrow.

The 48-year-old INLA activist, nicknamed 'The Border Fox', was behind the kidnapping and callous assault of the Dublin dentist, John O'Grady in 1987.

O'Hare has reportedly been allowed out of Castlerea Prison, in Co Roscommon, for a couple of nights.

The prison service is not at liberty to say why O'Hare or any other prisoner is granted temporary release.

O'Hare is serving a 40-year jail term for the kidnap and assault on Mr O'Grady, who had the tops of two of his fingers cut-off while in captivity.

O' Hare had demanded a £1.5m ransom for the dentist's safe return.
