Overseas development agency Christian Aid today hit out at the spending estimates announced by Minister for Finance Brian Cowen this afternoon.

Christian Aid said the spending was projected to be 0.41% of GNP for the fourth year running in 2005.

Christian Aid policy officer Oisín Coghlan said: This puts the nail in the coffin of Ireland’s commitment to reach the UN target of 0.7% of GNP by 2007. It’s a sad day for Ireland’s standing in the world."
