New restrictions to combat CJD
The Blood Transfusion Service is putting more restrictions on blood donations to further reduce the risk of variant CJD being transmitted by blood transfusions.
From tomorrow, the IBTS will not accept blood from anyone who has spent one year or more in the UK between January 1980 and December 1996 or from anyone who has had certain operations in the UK, including removal of appendix or tonsils, since January 1980.
