The two men who died in a drowning accident on the River Barrow in south Co Carlow yesterday evening have been named.

The two men who died in a drowning accident on the River Barrow in south Co Carlow yesterday evening have been named.

They were 34-year-old Martin Roche who was from Rockingham Court, Ferrybank, Co Waterford and 27-year-old Noel Byrne from Partrition, in Kilteegan in Co Wicklow.

They were part of a group out canoeing on the river when they got into difficulty at an area known as St Mullen's.

Post mortem examinations are being carried out today.
