Justice Minister Michael McDowell has announced plans to increase the maximum age for new garda recruits to 35 years.

Justice Minister Michael McDowell has announced plans to increase the maximum age for new garda recruits to 35 years.

The minister made the announcement at the Garda Training College in Templemore, Co Tipperary, today.

The move coincides with the Government's plan to recruit an extra 2,000 gardaí in the coming years in order to bring the strength of the force up to 14,000.
