The life expectancy of Irish people has increased by six years since the country joined the EU in 1973, according to the Central Statistics Office's statistical yearbook.

The life expectancy of Irish people has increased by six years since the country joined the EU in 1973, according to the Central Statistics Office's statistical yearbook.

Reports this morning said life expectancy was now 75.1 years for Irish men and 80.3 years for women, both of which are still below the EU average.
