Social and Family Affairs Minister Seamus Brennan has announced plans to end the process whereby some social welfare recipients have to "sign on" at garda stations.

Mr Brennan said 40,000 recipients of unemployment benefit currently had to 'sign on' monthly at garda stations throughout the country.
