A 40-year-old man who was found bound and beaten on a roadside in Monaghan was tonight being interviewed by gardaí.

The Belfast man was spotted by locals last night in Raconnell, which is around five miles from the border.

He had sustained bruising after being assaulted.

He was taken to Cavan General Hospital, for treatment. He was visited tonight by a team of gardaí led by Inspector Pat McMorrow.

“He is being interviewed to get his version of events,” said a Garda spokesman.

Gardaí have preserved the scene for technical examination.
