Cullen rules out increase in height of Dublin Port Tunnel
Transport Minister Martin Cullen has confirmed that the height of the Dublin Port Tunnel will not be changed to facilitate so-called super-trucks.
Speaking at a celebration in Dublin to mark the 20th anniversary of the East-Link Toll Bridge, he said the decision was taken after extensive consultation.
He said the decision was based on safety concerns, but cost and time delays were also factors.
The tunnel currently has a clearance of 4.65 metres, but truckers have been calling for it to be increased slightly to ensure that it can facilitate modern trucks that exceed that height.
