Gay men criticise Catholic bishops’ attitude to homosexuality

A group of gay men in Cork has written a letter to all Catholic bishops in Ireland criticising their attitude to homosexuality.

The move is a response to a recent document from the bishops relating to suicide.

In its letter, the Southern Gay Men's Health Project claims that the Church's teachings on sexual orientation play a key role in prompting many young men to take their own lives.

The group also says homophobic comments are common in Irish society and are causing great distress to gay men.
