Agreement reached on Dunsink Lane standoff

Representatives of the Travelling community and the local authorities in north Dublin have reached an agreement in relation to the stand-off over the erection of a massive concrete barrier at Dunsink Lane in Finglas.

The barrier was put in place last week in an effort to stop illegal dumping on the road, but it also blocked direct access to the rest of Finglas for the Travellers who live in Dunsink.

Anger over the measure spilled over into public disorder on a number of occasions.

However, following talks last night, the local community and the authorities agreed to move the barrier further up Dunsink Lane where it will not impede access to services like schools and shops.

Martin Collins of the Traveller representative group Pavee Point said the barrier would be removed by the end of January as part of the agreement.
