Programme unveiled for Cork 2005

The programme of events for Cork’s tenure as European Capital of Culture in 2005 was unveiled at a celebratory launch in the Crawford Municipal Art Gallery today.

The programme of 236 creative projects represents new creative work in Cork, with many free events presented in public spaces.

It is divided into eight disciplines: Architecture, Design & Visual Arts; Festivals; Film Media & Sound; Literature, Publications & Conferences; Music; Residencies, Research & Process; Sport; and Theatre & Dance.

Speaking at the launch, Director of Cork 2005 John Kennedy said he was delighted with the programme.

“As the smallest city ever to be awarded this prestigious designation, Cork faced the challenge of taking its place alongside some of the great European cities that have previously held the title - Copenhagen, Madrid, Helsinki and Prague to name a few. Cork has answered that challenge emphatically and in its own unique and personal way,” said Mr Kennedy.
