Govt gives €250k in aid for Caribbean storm victims

The Government has announced a €250,000 aid allocation to the victims of the recent hurricanes in the Caribbean.

Junior Minister Conor Lenihan said the money would be used to help 400,000 people in Haiti and Grenada, which were both devastated by Hurricane Ivan and Tropical Storm Jeanne last month.

Jeanne killed up to 2,000 people in Haiti, while Ivan damaged or destroyed 90% of all homes in Grenada.

The aid allocation announced today comes on top of another €250,000 pledged to the region by the Government on September 23.
