Bishops conference urges greater research into suicide scourge
The Irish Bishops’ Conference called on the Government to do all in its power to create greater public awareness of suicide.
The bishops said recent figures released by the World Health Organisation show that after road deaths, suicide is the second-highest cause of death in Europe.
In Ireland, the ratio of young men to women committing suicide is four to one.
Every house in the country has received a pastoral letter urging young people thinking of taking their own lives to think again.
