Anonymous letter could be new lead in hunt for Raonaid's murderer

Gardaí are investigating a letter which may provide a lead in the case of murdered Dublin teenager Raonaid Murray.

According to media reports today, the Murray family received an anonymous letter which is understood to have provided forensic evidence linking it to a suspect in the case.

The letter was sent within days of a renewed appeal by the Gardaí to mark the fifth anniversary of the murder last month.

Raonaid was stabbed to death on the night of September 1999, a short distance from her home in Dun Laoghaire.

Gardaí took thousands of statements and carried out many interviews at the time of the murder, but no one has ever been charged in connection with the case.
