Harney welcomed to new post
Tánaiste Mary Harney has been welcomed to her new post by representatives of hospital consultants and pharmacists.
Ms Harney moved to the Health portfolio today from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
Finbarr Fitzpatrick, secretary general, of the Irish Hospital Consultants Association said: "During her political career, she has demonstrated courage, ability and vision – qualities which are vital to ensure the delivery of a first class healthcare service to all Irish citizens."
Meanwhile the Irish Pharmaceutical Union (IPU), the representative body for over 1,400 pharmacists across the country, also welcomed the appointment.
Dr Karl Hilton, president of the IPU, said: “There is no doubt that the new Minister brings enormous political authority and skill to her new position. She has been an outstanding Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment and we look forward to her making a major contribution to the ongoing modernisation and development of our health services."
