The British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, says he is optimistic about efforts to restore devolved government in the North.

He told the BBC's Breakfast with Frost programme the parties are making big efforts to achieve a breakthrough.

Mr Blair said republicans have come an enormous way and are doing their best to try and bring about peace.

He said he hopes that republicans, nationalists and unionists manage to make a lasting agreement over the coming weeks.
