Irish Advanced Motorists have issued driving advice to people attending the 2004 National Ploughing Championships at Grangeford, Tullow, Co Carlow from September 28 to 30.

Traffic is expected to be very heavy, and Mike Kavanagh, road safety advisor for Irish Advanced Motorists warned drivers to "expect the unexpected".

"Motorists should be patient and give themselves plenty of time to reach the destination. It is advisable to spend a few minutes planning the route prior to setting out.”

There will be a small number of one-way systems in place on minor roads leading to the event.

Parking restrictions will be in place during the event and parking on all roads adjacent to, and within the site itself, will be prohibited from 6am to 9pm daily. Authorised parking sites and areas will be clearly signposted.

Parking restrictions will also be in place in both Carlow and Tullow. Motorists not attending the Ploughing Championships are advised to plan alternative routes.
