The Labour Party has dismissed the Government's latest vow to honour its commitment on recruiting 2,000 extra gardaí.

Justice Minister Michael McDowell said yesterday that the cabinet would approve the hiring of the extra officers. He said this would facilitate the establishment of a dedicated garda traffic corps.
