The Dublin-based charity Crosscare is hoping to raise €1m in its annual appeal for 2004, which is due to be launched by the Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, later today.

The organisation, which is controlled by the Catholic Archdiocese of Dublin, was establised in 1941 to serve the needs of the poor and marginalised in the city and adjacent areas.

It has already distributed more than 570 tonnes of food to poor people this year and also provides 15,000 beds for the homeless.
