The Government has reportedly abandoned its plan to introduce carbon taxes in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Environment Minister Martin Cullen was planning to introduce the tax in January, but reports this morning said his cabinet colleagues believed the environmental benefits would not justify the increased cost on business and consumers.
