Tooman chosen as site for new Dublin super-dump

A 350-acre site at Tooman in north Co Dublin has been selected as the proposed location for a new super-dump to serve Dublin city and country for the next 20 years.

The location, around 11kms north of Swords, was chosen ahead of six other sites by consultants working for the four local authorities in the greater Dublin area.

The Tooman facility will be one of the biggest dumps in Ireland and will replace three existing landfills that are due to close in the near future.

It has the capacity for 10 million tonnes of waste over a dumping area of 150 acres.
