Nursing home legislation needed - FG

Opposition parties are calling for new legislation to allow Health Boards to close unfit nursing homes.

Fine Gael says it is alarming to find out that under current laws, this measure is not possible.

The comments follow the High Court decision not to allow the South Western Area Health Board to close a Dublin nursing home.

Ms Justice Finlay-Geoghegan concluded today that the Board had no right under the law to apply for an interim closure of Rostrevor House in Rathgar.
