An 18-year-old hurler died last night while playing a league match in north Co Cork.

An 18-year-old hurler died last night while playing a league match in north Co Cork.

The teenager, who has been named locally as Kevin Quinn, is reported to have contested a ball in the first four minutes of the game. When play moved on, the youth was seen lying on the ground clutching his chest.

The apprentice electrician from Glanworth village was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem is due to be carried out at Cork University Hospital today.
