Group to recommend aptitude test for new medical students

A working group established by Education Minister Noel Dempsey is reportedly set to recommend major changes to how students are accepted into medical school.

Reports this morning said the Committee on the Future of Medical Education would recommend that the points requirement for medical school be lowered to 450.

All students who met this minimum requirement would then sit an aptitude test to determine their suitability to become a doctor.

This morning’s reports said graduates with an honours Bachelor degree from any course would also be entitled to undergo these aptitude tests.
