Gardaí appealed for information today after a woman’s body was found by a local fisherman in the river Shannon in Co Roscommon.

Gardaí appealed for information today after a woman’s body was found by a local fisherman in the river Shannon in Co Roscommon.

The body of the woman, in her 50s, was discovered at around 5pm in shallow waters in the River Shannon, almost at the point where it enters Lough Reagh, near Portrunny in Co Roscommon.

A sergeant at Roscommon Garda Station said: “No one is missing in the area that we know of. So we are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.”

The woman was 5ft 6ins tall with shoulder-length black hair, going grey. She was wearing a black T-shirt and tracksuit bottoms.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out today.
