The Government has been warned that, if it fails to take action soon, the Irish film and television industry will be a thing of the past.

The Government has been warned that, if it fails to take action soon, the Irish film and television industry will be a thing of the past.

Fine Gael's spokesperson on the Arts Jimmy Deenihan has said Minister John O'Donoghue must take notice of the drop in activity in the Irish film industry.

Deputy Deenihan has called for the group that made proposals on the development of the film industry in 1999 to be reconvened.

“I would be calling on the Minster to reconvene that committee under Ossy Kilkenny, if he is available to review what has happened, but also to make recommendations to restore the competitiveness of the Irish film industry.”
