Woman quizzed over man's death

Detectives were today questioning a woman in connection with the murder of a 47-year-old man near Belfast.

The victim, named locally as Geordie McDowell, was found in the Rathcoole area of Newtownabbey on the northern outskirts of Belfast.

Murder squad detectives were called in yesterday after his body was found at a flat in Crossreagh Drive on Thursday.

Mr McDowell is thought to have suffered at least one wound and police believe he may have died as the result of a domestic row.

Police and ambulance were called to the scene last night and made the discovery.

A police spokeswoman said yesterday: “Following the results of a post-mortem examination police are now treating the death as murder.”

Police believe an anonymous caller who called the Crimestoppers number may have vital information on the killing and have appealed to the person to contact them again.
