The Irish Government betrayed the victims of the Dublin and Monaghan bombings by deciding on a private inquiry into the atrocities, relatives claimed tonight.

The Justice for the Forgotten group said Bertie Ahern had gone back on commitments made in 1999 to set up a public inquiry to investigate allegations of collusion between loyalist paramilitaries and British authorities.
