Shots fired at family home

A Catholic family escaped injury early today when shots were fired at their home in Northern Ireland.

The attack happened after six men, some of them masked, entered a house in Corkey Road in the village of Loughgiel, Co Antrim, just before 2am.

It is believed they were looking for someone who was not in the house at the time.

After they went outside, they used baseball bats to smash the side window of a car parked outside.

They then fired three shots towards the house and one at the car before leaving in a dark-coloured vehicle.

Police said they believe the attack was sectarian and have appealed for information.

Meanwhile, two men were arrested after a number of petrol bombs were seized by police in the Rathenraw Estate area of Antrim early this morning.

A police vehicle had come under attack from petrol bombs in the nearby Stiles Way shortly before the devices were recovered.

A barricade which had been placed across the road at Stiles Way was removed by officers.

Another two men were arrested by police in Derry after officers came under attack from petrol bombs.

A total of nine devices were hurled at police between 7.35pm and 11.30pm yesterday.
