Breakaway ESB union urged to call off strike

The National Implementation Body (NIB) has called on the ESB Officers’ Association (ESBOA) to call off strike action due to begin on Monday.

The NIB, which was established to oversee the implementation of the Sustaining Progress agreement, held talks with ESB management and unions yesterday in an effort to resolve a long-running dispute over pay and other issues.

The ESB unions have voted in favour of strike action, but have agreed not to exercise this mandate while efforts continue to resolve the dispute.

However, the ESBOA has broken ranks with the other unions and has served strike notice for next Monday.

Last night, the NIB asked the union to reconsider the decision after proposing that the dispute be referred to the Labour Court.
