RPA says Luas safety satisfactory

The Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) has said that it told the Minister for Justice it is entirely comfortable with the safety arrangements for the Luas tram system.

It was responding to a letter from Michael McDowell.

The RPA has not yet stated that it will take full responsibility, but a spokesperson for the company said that they are confident that the line is safe.

Minister McDowell's letter to RPA chief executive Frank Allen gave details of an incident on the line in the Rathmines area of south Dublin, in which two children narrowly escaped injury.

He then expressed his concerns at the safety of the crossing at the Cowper stop, before stating that it was, in his opinion, "a matter of direct personal accountability and moral responsibility".
