A 24-year-old diver who died after becoming trapped in a vessel off the coast of Dun Laoghaire was identified today by gardaí.

A 24-year-old diver who died after becoming trapped in a vessel off the coast of Dun Laoghaire was identified today by gardaí.

Damian Byrne, from Cabinteely, Co Dublin, died last night despite fellow divers efforts to save him.

He became trapped in a vessel he had been trying to salvage and was taken to shore by lifeboat before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin.

Meanwhile gardaí have named a seven-year-old boy who drowned in Balbriggan, Co Dublin yesterday.

Karl Moore from Inbhir Ide, Malahide, Co Dublin had been staying with his aunt while his parents were on holiday.

Foul play was not suspected and a post-mortem examination will be carried out tomorrow.
