Unions decide against strike action

Unions representing workers at ESB have decided not to take any escalatory action as part of their pay dispute with the semi-state company.

The unions met this morning to discuss the possibility of taking strike action in pursuit of an 18.5% pay rise and an increased shareholding in the company.

The unions decided not to take any strike action yet in an effort to find a peaceful resolution to the dispute.

One of the unions, the ESB Officers’ Association, has already served strike notice on the company for July 12, but it is unclear if that will be withdrawn in light of today’s decision.
