NUI Galway today conferred honorary degrees on four academics for their work on human rights and Irish humanitarian studies.

Professor Roy Foster, Lex Friedan, Philippe Kirsch, and John Mannion received degrees at a ceremony at the college today.

Roy Foster is a professor of Irish history at Oxford University while John Mannion of St. John’s Memorial University, Newfoundland, has studied all aspects of Irish migration to Newfoundland.

Lex Friedan is the Chairman of US National Disability Council and senior Vice-President at the Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) at Houston, Texas.

Judge Philippe Kirsch is the first president of the International Criminal Court.
