Health Minister Micheál Martin is appealing to hospital consultants to come into talks to discuss their dispute over pay and conditions.

Speaking in the Dáil, the Minister said the implementation of the Hanly report on hospital reform is being held up because of the consultants' position.

Minister Martin has said the review group on the Hanly report is having difficulty making progress because of the stance taken by consultants.

"Neither the local implementation groups nor the two hospital review groups have been able to meet due to the consultants continuing industrial action. I would ask that all parties return to the table to progress the work of these groups."
