Concern for missing Cork girl

Fears are growing today for the safety of an 11-year-old girl who has been missing for three days.

Gardaí say they are increasingly concerned for the safety of Catherine O’Driscoll who left her home in Cork on Friday night.

They believe Catherine, who is a member of the Travelling community, may have hitched a lift away from the Crookstown area where her family has lived for the past three years.

Superintendent Mick Finn said the search had resumed today amid widespread anxiety for Catherine’s well-being.

“We are extremely concerned for her safety,” he said.

“We are getting very concerned and her family are distraught so we are appealing to the public. We are appealing to anybody who has any information about her whereabouts.”

Supt Finn said officers had especially asked any motorists in the area to contact them and for farmers to check their outbuildings.
