Six arrested in Limerick crime probe

Six people are being questioned by gardaí in Limerick about the activities of criminal gangs in the city, including at least one feud-related murder.

This brings to 16 the number of people arrested in the past two weeks in relation to serious criminal activity in Limerick.

Three men and two women were arrested before 7am today when armed detectives swooped on a number of homes across the city. Another man from Limerick was also arrested at a Dublin prison this morning.

It is understood a key part of the garda operation is the ongoing investigation into the murder of Michael Campell-McNamara.

The 23-year-old was murdered in an execution-style killing last year. He was shot in the head and his body was dumped on wasteground off the Fedamore Road on the city's southside last October.

The six people arrested today are being questioned at Roxboro, Henry St and Mayorstone garda stations in the city, and at Bruff garda station in Co Limerick.

All six were held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act which means they can be detained for up to 72 hours without charge.
