Government publishes Bill to centralise DIT
A new centralised campus for the Dublin Institute of Technology is being planned for the site of Saint Brendan's Psychiatric hospital.
The Government is publishing a new Bill allowing for the establishment of an agency to oversee the €750m transformation of the 73-acre site at Grangegorman near Smithfield.
New residential and day-care facilities for people suffering from mental disabilities and psychiatric illnesses will also be on the site.
President of the DIT, Professor Brian Norton has said: "We want to retain the identity DIT has now, which is on the street as it were and if possible retain as much of the existing street plan that probably predestines the development and provide amenities to the local community so that it remains lively at night and at weekends.”
