Sargent slams proposed National Monuments Bill

Green Party leader Trevor Sargent has claimed that the Government’s proposed National Monuments Bill will damage Irish tourism.

Mr Sergeant was speaking during a protest against the proposed legislation outside Leinster House this morning.

The Government is trying to introduce the new law in order to facilitate the construction of motorway projects in areas of archaeological importance.

Opponents of the bill claim it fails to protect national monuments like Carrickmines Castle and will legalise badly designed roads.
