Man questioned in Limerick shooting probe

A man in his 20s was being questioned by detectives tonight after a man was shot dead in Limerick.

A garda spokeswoman said the man was being held at Mayorstone Garda Station.

A murder investigation was launched last night after the 23-year-old victim was shot at close range on College Road in the Moyross area of the city.

It is understood the victim was among a group of people when another man approached and fired a shot.

The man was critically wounded and was rushed to Limerick Regional Hospital - but died shortly after arrival.

State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy was carrying out a post mortem examination today, while the scene of the shooting was being combed by forensic experts.
