McDaid out, Dana facing elimination in North-West

Fianna Fáil TD Jim McDaid has been eliminated from the European election in the North-West constituency.

Fianna Fáil TD Jim McDaid has been eliminated from the European election in the North-West constituency.

Independent candidate Rosemary ‘Dana’ Scallon also looks set to lose her seat in the constituency as she is in fourth place after the third count and is unlikely to attract enough transfers to avoid being eliminated.

Fianna Fáil’s Sean O’Neachtain is expected to be elected first, with independent Marian Harkin likely to get the second seat.

Observers have predicted that Fine Gael’s Jim Higgins will secure the third and final seat ahead of Sinn Fein’s Pearse Doherty as he is more likely to benefit from Dana’s transfers.
