FF suffers worst local election result in 80 years
Fianna Fáil is today coming to terms with its worst local election performance in 80 years.
One-fifth of the party’s councillors lost their seats in the election, many of them to Sinn Féin, which doubled its representation.
Support for Fine Gael and the Labour Party saw little change since the last election, but Labour is now the biggest party in Dublin with 34 seats.
Fianna Fáil won a total of 277 seats throughout the country, while Fine Gael won 271, Labour won 95 and Sinn Féin won 52.
The Progressive Democrats also won 17 seats, while the Green Party won 16. Other parties and independent candidates secured 99 seats.
