SF’s McDonald celebrates European seat in Dublin
Sinn Féin's Mary Lou McDonald is today celebrating her win of a seat in the Dublin constituency.
"I'm absolutely ectastic. This has been a fantastic day for Sinn Féin," she said
She was elected along with Fine Gael’s Gay Mitchell, Fianna Fáil’s Eoin Ryan and the Labour Party’s Prionsias de Rossa.
Mitchell topped the poll with more than 90,000 votes, 6,000 over the quota.
Fianna Fáil’s Royston Brady saw his vote collapse and only secured 36,000 first preferences, while the Green Party’s Patricia McKenna lost her seat after picking up just 40,000 votes.
