Ballot counts continue around the country

The counting of votes in the local and European elections is continuing around the country.

Early indications suggest that the Fianna Fáil vote is down significantly while Sinn Féin is on course to pick up numerous seats at local level.

In Dublin the vote for Royston Brady has all but collapsed in the Euro poll.

Gay Mitchell of Fine Gael is topping the poll followed by Eoin Ryan of Fianna Fáil, followed by Proinsias De Rossa of Labour.

Mary Lou McDonnell of Sinn Féin is in with a strong chance of taking the fourth seat in Ireland East.

Early tallies suggest Mairead McGuinness of Fine Gael will take a seat as will Liam Aylward of Fianna Fáil and perhaps Peter Cassells of Labour.

In Ireland North West, incomplete tallies suggest Sean O'Neachtain of Fianna Fáil will take the seat followed by Marian Harkin, Dana Rosemary Scallon or Pierce Doherty.

On the citizenship referendum, early tallies suggest that it will be carried by 2-1.
