Three Irish women named in Queen's Birthday Honours list

Three Irishwomen have been named in the Queen's Birthday Honours List, published today.

They will receive MBEs from Queen Elizabeth in respect of their important contribution to British interests.

Ann Meade is the Administrator of Victim Support in Ireland. She was involved in the setting up of the Tourist Victim Support Service, which provides assistance to people who become victims of crime while visiting this country.

Since its inception 10 years ago, the service has helped more than 1,000 British tourists.

Aileen Kerr has worked as a volunteer at Leopardstown Park hospital in Dublin for over 20 years.

The hospital was established to provide for the care and treatment of people serving in the British forces, and continues to house a sizeable number of British war pensioners and ex-servicemen.

Agnes Byrne has worked with the British embassy since 1975. In her free time, she supports charities for Down's Syndrome and special needs children.
