Euro FMD Commission anniversary marked in Dublin
The 50th anniversary of the European Foot and Mouth Disease Commission has been marked in Dublin.
The Commission was established in 1954 as part of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations.
It has 33 members and plays a vital role in maintaining readiness and expertise to deal with outbreaks of foot and mouth, as well as assisting with control initiatives in neighbouring countries and providing information on the global FMD situation.
The Commission also assesses the risk of introduction of foot and mouth disease from different parts of the world.
