Trocaire disappointed at G8 debt relief gesture
Irish charity Trocaire has expressed disappointment at what it has described as the 'meagre gesture' by the G8 countries on debt relief for third world countries.
The leaders extended the deadline for countries' entry to the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries programme by two years.
Director of Trocaire, Justin Kilcullen, commented that this was just a loose commitment and "a bit of an anti-climax" when considered in light of the expectations of substantial action by the leaders.
